How to Source Agricultural Products from Egypt

Finding a supplier is easy compared with finding the right supplier for a specific programme. Effective sourcing begins with a clear buyer brief, then tests product capability, commercial fit, quality systems, communication and logistics against that brief.

1. Define the requirement before requesting prices

State the product and variety where relevant, required grade, size profile, packaging, destination, estimated volume, frequency, timing and any certification or residue requirements. A vague request usually produces vague quotations that are difficult to compare.

2. Separate farm capability from export capability

A strong grower is not automatically the right exporter. Depending on the crop and market, the programme may require packhouse capacity, pre-cooling, traceability, labelling, documentation, quality-control procedures and experience serving the destination. The complete supply route matters.

3. Compare like with like

Headline price is only meaningful when the underlying specification is the same. Clarify pack weight, grade, size, Incoterms, loading point, payment terms, inspection basis and what is included in the quotation before comparing potential suppliers.

4. Verify the claims that matter to your market

Where a buyer requires particular certification, traceability, residue controls or destination-market approval, those points should be checked for the specific supplier and programme rather than assumed from general marketing claims.

5. Build communication and follow-up into the process

Agricultural supply changes quickly. Crop development, packing schedules, vessel space and quality observations need prompt communication. Local follow-up can reduce delays between the buyer’s question and the supplier’s action.
